As a child, Kal is forced towards premature independence through his mother’s preoccupied absence. Uncomfortable at school, his only escape is through drama classes and the fascinating presence of Old Nell, his tutor. However, he is gifted with the loving, unconditional friendship of Chez, his Border Collie. This initial canine bond marks the start of a lifetime of fond affinity with dogs. As Kal grows, Chez remains faithfully at his side, and when an orange mist mysteriously appears they set off on an otherworldly adventure together.
